Yuta Woman- 10" x 8" Gouache and Ink on Acid Free Bristol Paper- Shipping Included
The Yuta are very influential figures in Okinawa. They are female spirit mediums who have been around for centuries, throughout much persecution and difficulty. Many people know of the Salem witch trials and other examples of such persecution throughout Western history. However, very few would know that there were similar occurrences in the history of Okinawa. In fact, few foreigners are aware that prior to 1879 Okinawa was a separate country from Japan, called the Ryukyu Kingdom, with its own culture and language. It is fascinating to study. I encourage you to look it up!
Many Yuta women discover their psychic power as they grapple with mental illness. They wander around, they talk to themselves, they have so much pain, and then they find their powerful resolve and can help others.
Since they have been through so much misery and very hard times they become very good counselors for people in times of trouble, even beyond their psychic abilities.
